Conceived in 1994 shortly following release of the first Netscape web browser version by MaxiBase Pty Ltd, a Melbourne based Software Developer and operated from mid 1995 by Access Net Australia as a Web Instant Publishing (WIP) solution using a browser interfaced LAN database. Cornerstone of its construct was navigation through a natural, unlimited hierarchy of content forms; pages, contacts and products.
In coping with the rapid consumer uptake of Internet technology, Access Net relied on WIP to help its Internet Services customers come to grips with using internet technologies. It's 5,000 odd help desk and tutorial pages extended and updated daily, direct by Access Net Customer Support staff as a by-product of their job, became referenced throughout the world for its rich knowledge base of internet practicalities.
Access Net Australia, a Melbourne-based premium quality internet services provider became a licensed distributor of the WIP solution.
Many organisations applied WIP for different purposes. Some to present information about their business, others to list their products or people skills. WIP sites were primarily used for display and retrieval of information.
After some 4 years of operation and particularly with the improved broadband access, business websites were expected to both provide and accept information to intelligently process end-user demands through to satisfaction. The term "Worksite" was coined to differentiate between websites that show information from those that both show information and enable it to be worked with online.
To meet this demand, in June 2000, Access21 was rebuilt from the ground up utilising industry accepted best-practice technologies particularly addressing needs for security and application flexibility. On completion of redevelopment, existing WIP sites were converted to Access21.
Since then Access21 has evolved into a comprehensive, reliable, fast solution for personal and business application either as a complete or partial web solution or customised for Application Specific Providers.
